Meet Franklin Bean Franklin Bean Superhero Series Book 1 edition by Emmy Swain Children eBooks Reviews

This children's book focuses on issues that affect children of all ages. Franklin Bean is a cute talking dog that helps a young boy named John deal with being lonely after moving to a new town. Franklin Bean shows John how to handle some of the pressures of his young life. There are some good messages in this book that teach children about topics that affect them today.

The colorful illustrations are appealing, not only to me as an adult, but also to young readers who will be drawn into the story. Children will benefit from Franklin Bean's teachings and from John's strength and the love of his family.
This book deals with a lot of topics in a short space and I thought the author handled them pretty well. There is everything in this book from the state of the economy to eating well to anti-bullying messages. I like that the child main character of this book was polite and nice to his animal friend. The dog being the superhero of the book has been a main theme in other books, but never quite done as well as this one, in my opinion. This book is very cute from beginning to end. The sentence structure is very simple and would be perfect for a first time chapter book introduction. This author obviously has a gift for writing children's literature and I look forward to reading more. I recommend this one.
This is a short chapter book with great illustrations. The story is about a young boy, John, who has to relocate with his mother who just lost her job. He is nervous about moving to a smaller house in a different neighbourhood and having to change schools. When he finds a stray dog, Franklin Bean, that can talk, his life begins to look better. And the dog has another amazing secret that - in this book - John hasn't figured out yet.
Meet Franklin Bean has some life lessons in it, and is a good story for very young readers and pre-readers.
"Meet Franklin Bean" by Emmy Swain

This is an amazing children's book. The book is about a young boy named John. His mother moves the family to a new town due to her job. While exploring his new area John starts to go to the beach but as he is crossing the street he hears a voice telling him to be careful. Looking around and only seeing a dog near him, John realizes it was the dog he heard. Franklin Bean, the dog, introduces himself and shortly afterwards John and his mom adopts the dog.

The story even though it is an ebok has amazing pictures that makes the book flow so smoothly. This book brings out life lessons that a child might come across like crossing the road safely, bullying and how hard it is to move away from all that you know.

This author in how she expresses the words reminds me why I read books from all genre. It is a book for all ages, not just children.

I hope to see more of Franklin Bean.
This is a fun read, but it's not a fluffy book. The book addresses the economy, bullying, and change. I think this book will appeal to school-age children, mainly because the subject-matter is a little heavier than pre-schoolers are prepared to sit through. I read it to my 3-year-old, and about 75% of the way through, he told me to stop because the talking dog scared him*. (We might have had better luck had we been reading a physical book rather than an ebook. After all, Blue's Clues books and shows are a staple in our house, and that's certainly a talking dog. ) My ten-year-old, however, loved it, and when he read, "Keep your eye out for the next Franklin Bean adventure," he was very excited and asked, "That means there are going to be more books, right?"

As for the actual story, it's well-written and flows well. I enjoyed reading it.

*UPDATE On Wednesday night, I tried to read the book to the 3yo, and he made me stop. Saturday morning, the first thing he said when he woke up was, "I want to read the doggy story." Um, okay. So we did, and he liked it. Kids.

I received this book for free from the author in exchange for an honest review.
When I was young I had a teacher, Mr. Ton, who had a yellow duck he kept on his desk. Every morning he told us a story about the duck he named La Duck. We laughed and listened as his imagination brought the duck to life. When I read Meet Franklin Bean I instantly remembered La Duck and was reminded of how much fun it was then and still is now, reading characters that are vivid food for the imagination. My grandchildren loved the book as much as I did.

In Franklin Bean we are introduced to young John as he moves into a new neighborhood. Friendless, the boy first meets a dog, Franklin Bean, and then discovers the dog can talk. The imagination opens and is fed fascinating information. Neighborhood children are in awe, and rumor has it a super hero, a mysterious character named Pancho Frijoles is in the midst. Pancho Frijoles flies, saves lives and is just plain exciting. Is it magic, the imagination or more? Then, with John in school, Franklin Bean meets Kirby - oh wait, that's another story for another time.

The illustrations are simple and yet terrific. They draw you right into the story, making you want to see more. Best of all are the characters because you like them all.
